The moment tennis stops being tennis

Funny that we still call it tennis.

At the start, someone just says "hit the ball over the net." You believe it. You play. You love it. You think you're learning tennis.

Then months in, it happens. You hit a ball with a little extra wrist and it just... dips. Hard. Right at the baseline. Your opponent doesn't even move. You're standing there like, wait, what was that.

That's the moment it stops being tennis.

Because after that it's all spin. Topspin to keep it in. Slice to mess with the rhythm. Kick serves jumping over your shoulder. More spin. Even more spin.

At some point I stopped calling it tennis in my head. It's Spinnis.

Then your legs remind you who's actually in charge, and you think, ok maybe it's Leggis.

Nah. Sticking with Spinnis. 😄

The longer I play, the more I believe it: Spinnis is just the more honest name for this game.
